14–21 September 2026 · Updated 16 September, 15:51 Bucharest
Benfica visit Milan before travelling to Porto. Marseille go to Istanbul before hosting Paris Saint-Germain. Real Madrid have come through their midweek game; Atlético still have Osasuna to face before the derby. This week's biggest matches come with something to get through first.
Here are twelve games across seven competitions: two from each top-five league, plus Milan–Benfica and Porto–Benfica. All twelve were rechecked on Wednesday afternoon. Four have result forecasts, unchanged at the site's displayed percentages, with Inter the only away side to lead its match. The other eight still await earlier fixtures. The goals forecasts below are refreshed too, including a first goals read for Roma–Inter.
Forecasts were rechecked on Wednesday 16 September at 15:49–15:51, Europe/Bucharest. Tuesday's results are now included in the English and Madrid previews. All kickoff times below use that timezone. Figures remain open to change before kickoff; the earlier editions are recorded in the update history and source notes.
A team's percentage can be the largest of the three without making its victory more likely than everything else combined.
Europe: Milan's small advantage, Benfica's bigger week
Milan–Benfica · Wednesday 16 September, 22:00
Milan 40% · Draw 25% · Benfica 35%
The Europa League opener illustrates a narrow favourite. Benfica are stronger on our model's underlying rating; home advantage shifts the balance slightly towards Milan. Only five percentage points separate the teams.
Our goals model gives 56% for at least three goals, just above its saved Europa League baseline of 54%. An open game is plausible, but hardly exceptional for this competition. Watch whether Benfica can turn the possession advantage identified in the model's recent-game evidence into chances away from home. Full match read.
Arsenal retain four league wins from four and just one league goal conceded. They also won 4–2 at Ipswich on Tuesday. Brighton are fifth, have scored thirteen in four league games, and arrive off a 5–0 win at Coventry. It is an appealing contrast: an early defensive record against a team producing goals.
Brighton's Wednesday meeting with Manchester United is now the remaining step. Our result forecast waits for that game before assessing Saturday's contest, with an expected opening on 17 September. Follow the match.
Liverpool followed their 0–0 league draw with Fulham by beating Tottenham 3–1 on Tuesday. Bournemouth's latest league game ended 2–2 with Brentford, and they visit Real Sociedad on Thursday. That European trip is the remaining step before our result forecast can open, expected on 18 September. It also makes Bournemouth's preparation worth following, without assuming a short turnaround means worse performance. Forecast pending.Match page.
Spain: a derby whose starting point is still moving
Atlético–Real Madrid · Sunday 20 September, 17:15
Real Madrid won 3–2 at Elche on Tuesday and now have fifteen points from six league games, five ahead of Atlético with one more game played. Atlético's latest league result remains their 3–0 win at Real Sociedad.
Atlético host Osasuna on Wednesday. That result can still change the points gap, the available players and the forecast's evidence. The derby probabilities remain pending, with an expected opening on 17 September. Match page.
Sevilla–Barcelona · Saturday 19 September, 22:00
Barcelona have five league wins from five and twenty-one goals. Sevilla just beat Valencia 1–0. Can they make this a tighter contest? Both play Wednesday—Sevilla at Deportivo, Barcelona against Racing Santander—so the forecast is pending. Match page.
Italy: two perfect starts, an Inter lean
Roma–Inter · Saturday 19 September, 19:00
Roma 30% · Draw 28% · Inter 42%
Result forecast added 15 September; rechecked unchanged at whole percentages on 16 September. Goals forecast added in this update.
Both kept their perfect league starts on Monday: Roma won 2–0 at Torino and Inter beat Udinese 5–3. They meet on twelve points from four games, with Roma ahead on goal difference. Roma have conceded once; Inter have scored thirteen but conceded six. That contrast gives Saturday a sharper question: can Inter find a way through the early leaders’ defence?
Our result model leans towards Inter because their stronger underlying rating outweighs Roma’s home advantage. Its historical evidence also gives home sides a smaller lift in Serie A and in the opening stretch of the season. Even so, 42% leaves a combined 58% for Roma or the draw: an Inter win remains less likely than those alternatives together.
The latest Janus read gives 55.5% for at least three goals, against its saved Serie A baseline of 50%. Both teams' longer-run scoring patterns and recent chance creation lift that estimate. It suggests a little more scoring than the competition reference, without making another eight-goal Inter game the expectation. Full match read.
Juventus–Atalanta · Sunday 20 September, 19:00
Juventus lost 3–2 at Sassuolo; Atalanta lost 2–1 at home to Cagliari. Both have setbacks to address, but Juventus first host NEC on Thursday. That response becomes part of Sunday's evidence. Forecast pending.Match page.
Germany: Dortmund's stronger rating meets home advantage
Stuttgart–Dortmund · Saturday 19 September, 19:30
Stuttgart 38% · Draw 27% · Dortmund 35%
Dortmund have won all three league games, most recently beating Paderborn 3–0. Stuttgart lost 2–1 at Hoffenheim. Yet our result forecast gives Stuttgart the smallest of leads: Dortmund's stronger underlying rating is offset by playing away.
Janus now gives 71.6% for at least three goals, against a saved Bundesliga baseline of 68%: a modest increase within an already high-scoring reference group. Monday's figures were 71.4% and 67.5%; the small refresh leaves the football reading much the same. Expectation of goals tells us little about who benefits; the result probabilities remain close. Full match read.
Leverkusen–Leipzig · Sunday 20 September, 16:30
Leipzig arrive off a 5–0 league win over Hamburg; Leverkusen drew 2–2 at Augsburg. Leverkusen host Celje on Wednesday before turning to this stronger domestic test. The midweek game is the remaining step before our weekend forecast can open. Match page.
France: Monaco–Lens offers more than a warm-up
Monaco–Lens · Friday 18 September, 21:45
Monaco 39% · Draw 26% · Lens 35%
Monaco are unbeaten in the league, with ten points from four games. Our model sees little difference in underlying strength. Home advantage keeps Monaco ahead; evidence that Lens have scored less than their chances suggest helps keep the gap small.
Janus now puts at least three goals at 66.8%, against its saved Ligue 1 baseline of 53%. Monday's figures were 67% and 53.5%. This remains a larger departure from the competition norm than Stuttgart–Dortmund, despite the lower headline percentage. Context changes how we read the number. Full match read.
Marseille–PSG · Sunday 20 September, 21:45
Marseille lost 1–0 at Rennes; PSG won 1–0 at Brest. Le Classique is the obvious occasion, but Marseille's Thursday visit to Beşiktaş is the next piece of evidence. Watch what that game reveals before attaching a numerical verdict to Sunday. Forecast pending.Match page.
Portugal: Benfica's week ends with the lead in play
Porto–Benfica · Sunday 20 September, 22:30
Porto have six league wins from six and eighteen points. Benfica have sixteen, so a win at the Dragão would take them above their hosts. Porto have conceded only twice; Benfica have scored twenty-one. The league lead is enough to make this a major early-season meeting.
Benfica's route here goes through Milan. Our forecast waits for Wednesday's game: the first away test can change how we understand the second. Match page.
Lines connect scheduled kickoffs, not measured recovery time. Travel, extra time where applicable, team selection and minutes played can all affect preparation. A shorter gap does not by itself prove a performance penalty.
What to check as the week unfolds
Wednesday's recheck leaves four result forecasts available and eight pending. Brighton–Arsenal, both Spanish games, Leverkusen–Leipzig and Porto–Benfica point to 17 September; Bournemouth–Liverpool, Juventus–Atalanta and Marseille–PSG to 18 September. These are expected dates after earlier fixtures, not guarantees that a forecast will be available at a particular hour.
The linked match pages carry subsequent updates. The figures in this article are Wednesday's dated snapshot, not an automatically updating feed. Our forecasts, reviewed will remain the place to assess the broader record, including matches outside this selection.
