Profile
Bryan Mbeumo is a Cameroon forward who turns a starting position on the right into a route towards goal. Left-footed, he can carry the ball infield to shoot or sprint beyond defenders without it. Those runs give team-mates an early forward pass when possession changes hands.
Born in Avallon, France, he developed in Troyes’ academy and scored both goals in their 2-1 victory over Tours in the 2018 Coupe Gambardella final, France’s national youth cup. His breakthrough in senior football followed with ten Ligue 2 goals in 2018/19.
He joined Brentford in August 2019 and formed an attacking trio with Saïd Benrahma and Ollie Watkins. After losing the 2020 Championship play-off final, Brentford returned the following year and beat Swansea City to win promotion to the Premier League, with Mbeumo now combining with Ivan Toney.
His movement developed through specific work with Thomas Frank. In a 2022 interview, Mbeumo described learning to operate on the last defensive line and anticipate crosses, making the run even before knowing whether the delivery would reach him. It is a way of creating a scoring chance without first needing to beat a defender on the ball.
Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals for Brentford in 2024/25. He joined Manchester United in July 2025 and finished his first campaign there, 2025/26, with 12 goals in all competitions.
Having represented France at youth level, Mbeumo chose Cameroon, his father’s country, and made his senior debut in September 2022. He explained that a meeting with Samuel Eto’o helped him decide. Later that year, he started all three of Cameroon’s group matches at the World Cup in Qatar.
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he was part of the Cameroon side that reached the quarter-finals, losing 2-0 to Morocco in January 2026. Cameroon had already missed qualification for the 2026 World Cup after a 1-0 play-off defeat by DR Congo in November 2025.
Bryan Mbeumo currently plays for Manchester United as a right winger. He has represented Cameroon internationally.
