Profile
Lewis Hall is an English left-back whose game combines work along the touchline with involvement in midfield. A left-footed player raised in Binfield, he developed through Chelsea's academy after joining at Under-8 level. His path included both midfield and defensive roles before left-back became his main position.
His first senior Chelsea appearance came against Chesterfield in the FA Cup in January 2022. Thomas Tuchel used him on the left of a three-man defence in a 5–1 win. Hall supplied Romelu Lukaku's goal, then had a shot saved into the path of Andreas Christensen for another.
Chelsea named him their Academy Player of the Season for 2022/23. His youth performances offered clues to his attacking range: against Salzburg he carried the ball from deep, escaped challenges and finished low, while his winning strike against Oxford United in the EFL Trophy showed the power of his shooting.
Hall joined Newcastle United on loan in August 2023 and made his debut in the 8–0 win at Sheffield United the following month. The move became permanent in July 2024. It also took him to the club he had supported as a boy, a connection he spoke about when the permanent signing was announced.
The full-back role lets him contribute in several lanes. Premier League analysis of Newcastle's visit to Everton in November 2025 highlighted Hall and Tino Livramento running inside their wingers and stepping into midfield. For Hall, those movements complement his stated preference for receiving during the build-up and helping move possession towards the opposition's goal. He has also described Ashley Cole's advice on defensive positioning as part of his development.
His senior England debut came against Greece in November 2024, before a first start against the Republic of Ireland. At club level, he contributed to Newcastle's successful 2024/25 League Cup campaign in the rounds leading to the final, although he did not play in the final itself.
International progress did not mean automatic tournament selection. Hall was left out of England's 2026 World Cup squad, then returned to the squad announced in September 2026 for Nations League fixtures.
