Profile
Career & playing style
Adrien Truffert's left-back role has roots in a broader education. Born in Liège and raised near Chartres, he entered Rennes' academy in 2015. The club described him as able to play in midfield as well as on the left of defence when he signed his first professional contract in May 2020. His preferred left foot and appetite for covering ground became useful on both sides of the ball.
His senior debut against Monaco in September 2020 made that dual role unusually clear. Introduced before half-time, Truffert crossed for Rennes' equaliser and then struck the stoppage-time winner with his left foot. It showed how an attacking full-back can alter a game from a defensive starting position.
He became a regular on Rennes' left side and captained the team during the 2024/25 season. Rennes had used him both in defence and higher up the flank. That range matters tactically: from left-back he can supply the touchline run, while a more advanced role asks him to receive nearer the opposing box. Bournemouth signed him from Rennes in June 2025, ending a decade with the French club.
In Bournemouth's 2025/26 league campaign, his width complemented Marcus Tavernier's movement infield from the left. As Tavernier moved toward central spaces, Truffert could advance outside him rather than crowding the same lane. Premier League tracking also placed Truffert among that season's leading players for distance covered. The running is significant because this version of the role repeatedly connects an attacking run with a return to the back line.
Bournemouth finished sixth in May 2026 and qualified for European competition for the first time in the club's history. Truffert then appeared in their September 2026 Europa League match at Real Sociedad. His contribution came through the left-flank work that helped shape their play.
For France, Truffert made a senior debut as a substitute against Denmark in September 2022. He started five matches for the French Olympic team at Paris 2024, including the final against Spain, and shared in the team's silver medal. He later started Nations League matches against Türkiye and Italy in September and October 2026, extending a national-team story beyond that first appearance.
