Profile
Rayan is a Brazilian forward who excels at turning a one-on-one contest into a race towards goal. Working mainly from the right, he can push the ball beyond a defender and accelerate after it, then either shoot or send a low pass across the penalty area.
Vasco da Gama shaped his development from childhood. Rayan later described the club as his second home, while his progress through Brazil's youth teams gave him experience beyond club football. His breakthrough gathered pace in 2025: Vasco reached the Copa do Brasil final, and he received the Brasileirão's individual breakthrough-player award.
His international development included South American titles with Brazil's under-17s in 2023 and under-20s in 2025. In the latter tournament, his equaliser against Argentina kept the title undecided until the final round. Brazil then beat Chile and finished as champions after Argentina lost to Paraguay, making his goal part of a decisive team campaign.
He joined Bournemouth from Vasco in January 2026 and quickly showed how his direct running could translate to English football. An assist on his Premier League debut against Wolves was followed by his first league goal against Aston Villa in February, when he surged forward and beat Emiliano Martínez at the near post.
Those early contributions illustrate two different endings to the same movement. Against Wolves and later Newcastle, he escaped his marker before passing across the six-yard box; against Villa, he finished the move himself. A defender facing his acceleration must therefore deal with both the shot and the pass across goal.
Rayan made his senior Brazil debut against Croatia in March 2026. His first senior international goal followed against Panama at the Maracanã in May, during a 6–2 win. His senior breakthrough extended a pathway that had already taken him through three youth age groups.
At the 2026 World Cup, he started Brazil's 3–0 group-stage win over Scotland and won the ball in the move that produced the opening goal. He also started against Norway in the round of 16. Brazil lost 2–1 and went out, ending his first senior World Cup campaign.
