Profile
Trey Nyoni came through Leicester City's youth system before joining Liverpool in September 2023. He developed across several midfield roles: deeper as a six, as an eight, and closer to the forwards as a ten. His preferred action is to receive facing the play and pass through an opponent's midfield.
His senior Liverpool debut came from the bench against Southampton in the FA Cup in February 2024, while he was 16. Another substitute appearance, away to PSV Eindhoven in January 2025, briefly made him the club's youngest European player. Rio Ngumoha surpassed that record in September 2025.
That early exposure did not mean a settled senior role. In 2024–25, Nyoni played for Liverpool's under-18, under-19 and under-21 sides as well as the first team. He said he still spent most of his time with the under-21s, crossing over to train with senior players.
Nyoni says he likes playing as a six or eight because he can see the game and pass between lines. Against West Brom in a February 2026 under-21 game, he threaded Will Wright through to score, then finished a move himself from close range. Those passages show a forward pass from midfield and an arrival near goal.
He made his Premier League debut as a stoppage-time substitute against Tottenham in December 2025. Nyoni later described 2025–26 as a learning year around the senior side. He started a League Cup match against Tottenham in September 2026, then explained that quick forward passing and aggressive pressing suited him. He said he had recently played as a six but remained open to the eight role.
England promoted Nyoni from its under-20 group to the under-21 squad in October 2026 after he had started under-20 wins over Italy and France. He was not in the under-21 matchday squad for the 2 October match against Slovakia.
Trey Nyoni currently plays for Liverpool as a central midfielder.
