Profile
Myles Lewis-Skelly came through Arsenal's Hale End academy after joining at eight. He developed as a central midfielder and helped the under-18s reach the 2023 FA Youth Cup final, scoring a late semi-final winner against Manchester City. That midfield education matters to the way he later made his mark in the first team.
Arsenal moved him towards left-back before his senior breakthrough. When Arsenal have the ball, he can leave the touchline and move into midfield, offering another passing option beside the deeper players. When possession changes, he still has a full-back's defensive work to do: recovering his position and dealing with the opponent on his side.
His distinctive strength is carrying the ball out of pressure rather than simply playing around it. Premier League tactical analysis describes how he receives in crowded central areas, shields possession and drives forward to connect defence with attack. That makes his movement inside more than a positional trick: it can help Arsenal advance through the middle while a winger provides the width outside him.
Lewis-Skelly made his Arsenal senior debut against Manchester City in September 2024. His 2024/25 breakthrough extended to the Champions League: he started at left-back as Arsenal eliminated Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. The sequence took a former academy midfielder into major matches as a defender without erasing the skills he had learned centrally.
England first selected him for the senior squad in March 2025. He started the World Cup qualifier against Albania at Wembley on 21 March and scored in a 2–0 win, becoming the youngest player to score on an England men's senior debut.
Arsenal won the 2025/26 Premier League title, with Lewis-Skelly appearing in their league campaign. His midfield background came back into view that May: he started centrally against Atlético de Madrid as Arsenal reached the Champions League final, then started in midfield against Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal lost that final on penalties, but the two starts showed another way his left-back and midfield experience could be used. He was not selected for England's squad at the 2026 World Cup, but returned to the senior squad that September.
Myles Lewis-Skelly currently plays for Arsenal as a left-back. He has represented England internationally.
