Profile
Career & playing style
Luís Guilherme attacks the gap between touchline and middle. The left-footed Brazilian can start on either flank, accelerate at a defender and carry inside or combine with a teammate. He played as a number ten in Palmeiras' academy; Sporting coach Rui Borges later identified him as an option on both wings and through the centre.
Palmeiras brought him into its youth system in 2017. His academy sides won the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in 2022 and 2023. He made his senior debut against Tombense in April 2023. He belonged to the senior group that won the 2023 Brazilian league and 2024 São Paulo state championship.
In April 2024, a Copa Libertadores winner against Independiente del Valle became his first professional goal. He also represented Brazil at under-20 level. The milestones show how quickly he moved beyond youth football, while his game still offered more than a single route to goal.
West Ham signed him from Palmeiras in June 2024. Borges later contrasted his right-sided role at Palmeiras with a left-sided role in England. Guilherme described the language and adaptation as difficult and said he had to wait for opportunities. That spell added a different positional demand.
He joined Sporting in January 2026. In February's Portuguese Cup tie against AFS, he started on the right, cut onto his left foot and curled in his first Sporting goal. The move makes his threat from that side easy to see: once the defender gives him room to step inward, his stronger foot faces the goal.
Sporting started him in a Champions League round-of-16 match at Bodø/Glimt in March 2026. He drove down the left and forced a save, although Sporting lost. The team overturned the deficit in the return leg to reach the quarter-finals.
A September league match supplied two more examples. An early left-sided run ended with a shot saved; later he drove infield past several defenders before the goalkeeper stopped him in the area. The distinctive question for Guilherme is what follows his first burst: a shot, an inside pass or a combination that frees someone else.
