Profile
Career & playing style
Marc Guiu is a centre-forward whose best documented moments start with movement close to goal. He looks to reach a pass or a loose ball before a defender can reset, then finishes quickly. His work without the ball matters too: Leipzig's sporting director singled out his intensity when pressing and his presence in the penalty area when the club signed him.
He began at Sant Celoni before entering Barcelona's academy. Guiu has said that his grandfather made him practise heading and passing before he could concentrate on shooting. He later described Barcelona’s academy as demanding and competitive, with new players regularly challenging for places.
His senior breakthrough was unusually direct. On 22 October 2023, Barcelona sent him on against Athletic Club with the match goalless. João Félix played him through, and Guiu scored with his first touch only seconds after coming on. The goal won the match and showed the value of timing a run behind a defence, then taking the chance early.
Guiu moved from Barcelona to Chelsea in summer 2024. The clearest early evidence of his penalty-area instincts came in the 2024/25 UEFA Conference League. Against Shamrock Rovers in December, he reacted to a misplaced header for one goal, intercepted a short back-pass for another, and headed in a cross to complete a first-half hat-trick. Those were three different routes to the same outcome: arriving where the next chance was forming.
Chelsea went on to win that Conference League and the 2025 Club World Cup. Guiu's documented contributions included goals in the Conference League's league phase and two appearances at the Club World Cup. In August 2025 he joined Sunderland on loan, but returned to Chelsea after a short spell.
A permanent move to RB Leipzig followed in September 2026. Leipzig described the fit in terms of pressing energy and a striker's presence in the box. That assessment is a useful lens on his Barcelona debut and Chelsea hat-trick: he can threaten the space behind a defender, chase a mistake, or meet a delivery, with the finish coming before the defence has reorganised.
