Estêvão

Estêvão is a Brazilian forward who makes defenders deal with more than one route to goal. From the right, he can carry the ball infield onto his left foot, accelerate towards the byline or send a cross through the penalty area. Short bursts and close control make those changes of direction effective.

Born in Franca on 24 April 2007, he practised with his father before developing at Cruzeiro and then Palmeiras. His family moved to Belo Horizonte for the Cruzeiro opportunity. He made his senior Palmeiras debut in 2023, with his first full breakthrough following the next year.

In the 2024 Brazilian league, he scored 13 goals and supplied nine assists in 31 appearances. Palmeiras finished runners-up, while Estêvão received the CBF’s breakthrough-player award and recognition among the competition’s best forwards.

His move to Chelsea in summer 2025 followed an unusual introduction: he had scored against them for Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-final that July. In a 2–1 defeat, he moved the ball clear of his feet in limited space beside Levi Colwill and drove his shot in off the crossbar.

His first senior Brazil appearance came against Ecuador in September 2024. A year later, an overhead kick against Chile brought his first international goal, opening the scoring in a World Cup qualifier.

The dribbling is only part of his attacking contribution. Chelsea’s analysis of their August 2026 League Cup win over Luton showed how his movement inside helped create extra passing options in the centre and freed space for Malo Gusto to overlap. Their combination led to Gusto crossing for Danny Welbeck’s opening goal. It illustrates how a winger can influence a defence through positioning and combinations as well as by beating an opponent with the ball.
