Profile
Daniel Muñoz is a Colombian right-back whose attacking value comes from repeatedly running beyond the ball. From wing-back, he can provide width, then attack the penalty area while defenders are watching the forwards. His game depends on making those journeys often and recovering quickly enough to defend his own flank.
His route into professional football took time. Born in Amalfi and raised in Bello, he played as a winger during his childhood and supported Atlético Nacional. Trials did not immediately bring a breakthrough, and he considered giving up before Águilas Doradas offered an opening. After a spell with regional club FC Total Soccer, he made his professional debut in early 2017.
A move to Nacional followed in 2019, turning a childhood supporter into a player and eventually captain of the club. Genk then took him into European football, where his forward runs remained a feature of his game. He joined Crystal Palace in January 2024, bringing that attacking approach to the Premier League.
Under Oliver Glasner at Palace, his role made particular use of movement without the ball. He pushed high on the right and made repeated runs into the box, offering an extra target beyond the nominal forwards. The other half of the job was just as demanding: getting back to apply pressure and make tackles near his own goal.
The 2025 FA Cup final showed both sides of that role. Muñoz advanced onto Jean-Philippe Mateta’s pass and crossed for Eberechi Eze to score the only goal against Manchester City. He also made a crucial tackle on Nico O’Reilly as Palace defended their lead. In May 2026, he started another winning final as Palace beat Rayo Vallecano to lift the Conference League trophy.
His attacking contribution extended to Colombia. At the 2026 World Cup, he scored the only goal against DR Congo in the group stage. Colombia subsequently went out to Switzerland on penalties in the round of 16.
In summer 2026, Muñoz moved from Palace to Nottingham Forest, reuniting with Glasner.
Daniel Muñoz currently plays for Nottingham Forest as a right wing-back. He has represented Colombia internationally.
