Profile
Tyrick Mitchell's work on the left involves two different jobs. He closes space when an opponent receives near the touchline, then becomes a passing option or an extra runner when his side attacks. That movement helps explain why he has played both as a conventional left-back and farther forward as a wing-back.
Mitchell trained at Brentford, but its academy closed in 2016; he joined Palace's youth setup that year and progressed through the age groups. He made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Leicester City on 4 July 2020. His first league start, away to Wolves later that month, showed him carrying the ball up the left flank rather than simply holding a defensive position.
Defending gave him a foothold. Mitchell later said earning teammates' trust through that work helped him stay in the team. He also described improving his forward passing and recognising where to move when the ball is elsewhere. Those skills connect: a pass can start an attack sooner, while a timed run can offer a route past midfield.
His club progress brought an England call-up in March 2022, his first at any international level. Mitchell came off the bench against Switzerland at Wembley on 26 March for his senior debut, then started against Côte d'Ivoire three days later. The match reports establish his participation, beyond his selection for the squad.
Mitchell started the FA Cup final against Manchester City on 17 May 2025 as Palace won 1–0, then started the Community Shield against Liverpool in August. Palace won the latter on penalties after a 2–2 draw. These were team honours: the match records show his participation without assigning him the decisive goal or shoot-out kick.
In the 2025/26 Conference League, Mitchell scored from a rebound against Fiorentina in April's quarter-final, then supplied the low delivery that reached Ismaïla Sarr for Palace's goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in the May semi-final. He started the final against Rayo Vallecano on 27 May; Palace won 1–0 for their first major European title. Mitchell headed a first-half chance wide, while Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the winner. In September 2026, Mitchell twice equalised at Fulham, first after breaking down the left and then from a loose ball in the area. These moments show how his positioning can turn a defensive flank role into penalty-area presence.
Tyrick Mitchell currently plays for Crystal Palace as a left wing-back. He has represented England internationally.
