Profile
Igor Thiago can be the player an attack goes through and the one who finishes it. He can hold the ball for a teammate, compete in the air or run behind a defender onto a longer pass. Inside the penalty area, his finishing with either foot and his head gives him several ways to turn a delivery into a chance.
Thiago also looks for the space between a centre-back and a full-back, or pulls away from his marker to stay onside before a through ball. His running gives teammates a target beyond the defence. He presses the player in possession too, fitting Brentford's approach of trying to regain the ball and attack quickly.
His path began in Brazil, where he worked carrying fruit and laying bricks while helping his family after the death of his father. Football took him through Vere and Cruzeiro, and he made his professional debut for Cruzeiro in January 2020. A move to Ludogorets in March 2022 brought his first experience of European club football.
Thiago helped Ludogorets win the Bulgarian league, cup and Supercup during his time there before joining Club Brugge in June 2023. He won another league title with the Belgian club in 2023–24 and helped them reach the Conference League semi-finals, building a goalscoring record across two different European leagues.
Brentford agreed his transfer in February 2024, with the move taking effect that July. An injury-disrupted first season delayed his opportunity in England: his Premier League debut came as a substitute against Everton in November 2024. His next season brought a much clearer breakthrough, including a hat-trick in a 4–2 win at Everton in January 2026.
International recognition followed in 2026. Thiago made his senior Brazil debut against France in March and scored his first international goal against Croatia soon afterwards. He then started Brazil's World Cup opener against Morocco that June.
