Profile
Dani Olmo is a Spanish attacking midfielder who finds pockets of space behind an opponent’s midfield. From there, he can connect passes near the box or make a run beyond the ball. His game combines that midfield involvement with a forward’s instinct for scoring.
Born in Terrassa, he passed through Espanyol and Barcelona’s youth teams before leaving for Dinamo Zagreb in summer 2014. He made his Croatian league debut in February 2015. A youth centre-forward and winger, he developed into a more central player in Croatia, where he had more opportunities to get on the ball.
His international breakthrough came while he was still at Dinamo. At the 2019 European Under-21 Championship, he scored Spain’s second goal in the 2–1 final win over Germany, lifting a rebound over Alexander Nübel after the goalkeeper parried Fabián Ruiz’s shot.
He joined RB Leipzig in 2020 and won the German Cup in 2022 and 2023. His hat-trick delivered a 3–0 victory over Bayern Munich in the 2023 German Super Cup. The second goal captured his close control: receiving with his back to goal, he spun past Matthijs de Ligt and finished through Sven Ulreich’s legs.
At EURO 2024, he scored in three successive knockout rounds, against Georgia, Germany and France, as Spain became European champions. His three goals made him one of six joint top scorers. His movement mattered without a touch, too: in the final, his run alongside Álvaro Morata’s helped open space for Nico Williams’s opening goal.
In August 2024 he returned to Barcelona, a decade after leaving its academy. He helped win LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in 2024/25, followed by another league title and Spanish Super Cup in 2025/26.
In July 2026, he added a World Cup title with Spain. The final on 19 July ended in a 1–0 win over Argentina.
Dani Olmo currently plays for Barcelona as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Spain internationally.
