Profile
Trent Alexander-Arnold is an English right-back whose passing gives him a playmaker’s influence. He can create from the right flank through crosses, or move into central areas to find runners with passes over the opposition’s defence.
Born in Liverpool on 7 October 1998, he joined Liverpool’s academy at six. A midfielder in the youth teams, he switched to right-back as a route towards the first team. Jürgen Klopp gave him his senior debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup on 25 October 2016.
His breakthrough season, 2017/18, ended with a start in the Champions League final. A year later he helped Liverpool win the trophy. His quickly taken corner for Divock Origi completed the 4–0 semi-final comeback against Barcelona, a moment that showed the value of spotting an opening before opponents were ready.
He played in all 38 league matches and supplied 13 assists during Liverpool’s 2019/20 Premier League title campaign. Those contributions showed how much of the team’s chance creation could come from a defender, with delivery from the right becoming a major attacking resource.
In spring 2023, Klopp gave that passing ability a different platform by moving him into midfield during possession. The change put him on the ball more often and added an extra player in central areas. His lofted assist for Darwin Núñez against Leeds that April illustrated how he could reach a forward directly from that position.
Alexander-Arnold made his senior England debut in 2018. At Euro 2024, he came off the bench against Switzerland and converted the decisive penalty in the quarter-final shootout. England went on to finish runners-up to Spain. In May 2026 Thomas Tuchel left him out of England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
His Liverpool career included a second Premier League title in 2024/25. He joined Real Madrid in June 2025, taking the passing game developed at his hometown club into Spanish football. His first season in Madrid was interrupted when a thigh injury suffered against Athletic Club in December 2025 kept him out for two months.
Trent Alexander-Arnold currently plays for Real Madrid as a right-back. He has represented England internationally.
