Profile
Viktor Tsygankov is a left-footed attacker who usually starts on the right wing. From there he can deliver from the flank, as he did for Sávio at Valencia, while his goals show he can finish moves himself. His contribution is not confined to finishing moves: creating chances for others has been a recurring part of his game.
He developed in Dynamo Kyiv's academy and made his senior debut as a substitute against Stal Kamianske in August 2016. He became a regular first-team attacker, used predominantly on the right but also elsewhere across the front line.
One defining Dynamo moment came in the 2021 Ukrainian Cup final. Tsygankov scored the extra-time goal in a 1–0 win over Zoria Luhansk, in a season when Dynamo also won the league and Super Cup. Separately, a vote by Ukrainian league coaches and players named him their player of 2020.
A January 2023 move to Girona took him into La Liga. His right-sided play became part of the team that finished third in 2023/24 and qualified for the Champions League for the first time. He scored eight league goals that season, but his role also depended on supplying teammates from the flank.
In Girona's decisive May 2024 win at Valencia, his cross from the right gave Sávio the opening goal. The move illustrates how Tsygankov can hold a wide position before finding a runner in the box. Ajax's later account of his Girona spell also highlighted his chance creation and passing in the attacking third.
For Ukraine, he was the team's leading scorer in qualifying for EURO 2024 and started its opening finals match against Romania. He also started the March 2026 World Cup play-off semi-final against Sweden, which Ukraine lost 3–1. These were appearances in two different campaigns, not merely squad selections.
Ajax announced an agreement with Girona for Tsygankov on 27 August 2026. It reunited him with Míchel Sánchez, his former Girona coach, and marked another change of league after his years in Ukraine and Spain. The move added a Dutch chapter to a career built around creating and finishing attacks from the right.
Viktor Tsygankov currently plays for Ajax as a right winger. He has represented Ukraine internationally.
