Profile
Sergio Camello Pérez is a Madrid-born striker who came through Atlético de Madrid’s academy after joining in 2009. On his first-team debut against Levante on 18 May 2019, he scored the equaliser. He continued his development through loans rather than immediately becoming an Atlético regular.
A season with Mirandés in Spain’s second division was the next step. He scored 15 goals and provided four assists in 37 appearances in 2021/22. He then moved on loan to Rayo Vallecano for 2022/23, bringing that second-tier experience into La Liga.
Rayo brought him back from Atlético permanently in 2023, after he had played in Spain’s European Under-21 Championship campaign, including the final against England.
Camello’s defining international moment came in the men’s Olympic football final on 9 August 2024. He replaced Abel Ruiz late in normal time and scored twice in extra time as Spain beat France 5–3 for gold. The second followed a long pass from goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.
UEFA’s 2026 technical analysis of a Rayo move against Drita shows another side of his game. Its observers describe Camello making himself available at a central passing angle while a teammate's run opens space beyond him. The move shows how a striker can help connect an attack without making the last pass or taking the shot.
A December 2025 win away to Jagiellonia showed the finishing side: Álvaro García crossed and Camello scored early, before hitting the woodwork twice. In May 2026 Camello came on in Rayo’s first UEFA club final, the Conference League final against Crystal Palace, which Palace won 1–0.
Those episodes suggest two complementary habits: offering the ball carrier an angle while a move develops, then getting into position to finish when a cross or pass arrives.
Sergio Camello currently plays for Rayo Vallecano as a striker.
