Profile
Jamal Musiala is a German attacking midfielder who can turn a crowded patch of pitch into a route towards goal. Close control lets him change direction without losing the ball, while receiving between the opposition’s midfield and defence gives him room to turn and attack.
Born in Stuttgart on 26 February 2003, he spent much of his childhood in England. His development took him through Southampton and Chelsea before he joined Bayern Munich’s youth setup in July 2019, bringing an English academy background into German senior football.
His first Bundesliga goal came against Schalke in September 2020, making him Bayern’s youngest scorer in the competition at the time. A defining contribution followed on the final day of 2022/23: his late winner at Cologne secured the victory Bayern needed to take the league title. In July 2025 he fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle in the Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, and he was sidelined until January 2026.
He also contributed to Bayern’s 2025/26 league and cup double. In April’s title-clinching win over Stuttgart, he dribbled through the penalty area and supplied Raphaël Guerreiro’s equaliser. In May, he started the DFB Cup final as Bayern beat the same opponents 3–0.
After playing youth internationals for England, Musiala chose Germany in 2021. At EURO 2024, he scored three goals and shared the tournament’s top-scorer award with five other players, giving his international career a significant individual milestone.
At the 2026 World Cup, he scored in Germany’s opening 7–1 win over Curaçao. The tournament ended much earlier than that start suggested: Germany lost to Paraguay on penalties in the round of 32 after a 1–1 draw.
His dribbling has a purpose beyond beating an opponent. UEFA’s analysis of the 2023/24 Champions League highlighted how he moved into deeper positions, turned and carried the ball through pressure. Against Manchester United, he dribbled past two defenders before setting up Serge Gnabry. That sequence explains his value as both a ball carrier and a creator: the run makes the next pass more dangerous.
Jamal Musiala currently plays for Bayern München as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Germany internationally.
