Tidiam Gomis

Tidiam Gomis is a right-footed attacker who likes receiving near the left touchline. Starting wide gives him room to face a defender and drive forward, while stretching the back line for teammates. He has also worked from the right and through the middle.

Born in Meulan, Gomis joined Caen's academy in 2019. On his sixteenth birthday in August 2022, he signed his first professional deal; Caen called him its youngest ever professional. He had already reached the Gambardella Cup final with an older youth side, an early sign of his accelerated pathway.

France's youth teams offered a different test. Gomis started the 2023 European Under-17 final against Germany, which France lost on penalties. He also started the Under-17 World Cup final against Germany later that year. His run and square pass from the right helped create France's equaliser, though another shoot-out ended with a runners-up finish.

His Caen breakthrough became tangible on 17 May 2024. Against Valenciennes, he scored his first two senior goals in a 3–0 Ligue 2 win. He reacted to a saved shot for the first and met a cut-back for the second. Those close-range decisions show another part of his attacking game beyond carrying the ball down the wing.

Caen transferred him permanently to RB Leipzig in February 2025. Leipzig's sporting director described a quick, skilful player able to cover several attacking positions. Gomis first had to make use of shorter opportunities; he drifted right and finished low for his first Bundesliga goal against Union Berlin in December 2025. His pace and flexibility became ways to compete for different roles at a higher level.

There is an off-ball side to that flexibility. Gomis has said defending from the wing is part of what his coaches expect. The same speed that helps him attack space can help him recover when possession changes. His World Cup final assist also illustrates that beating a defender can lead to a measured pass rather than a shot.

Two assists against Borussia Mönchengladbach in Leipzig's 2026/27 league opener provided another example of his chance creation. Coach Martín Demichelis then described his pre-season work on both wings and centrally. A first France Under-21 call-up followed in the autumn of 2026.
