Career & playing style
Armand Laurienté is a French wide forward who makes space with direct runs. From the left, he can carry the ball at a defender, accelerate past him and then choose between a shot and a pass. Lorient praised his speed, dribbling and free kicks; at Sassuolo he later showed he could contribute from either attacking flank.
He recalled playing at Roissy-en-France and attending Clairefontaine before he joined Rennes’ academy in 2013. A 2018 loan to Orléans brought senior football in Ligue 2. He then moved on loan to Lorient in 2019, giving him a more sustained role than he had found at Rennes.
Laurienté helped Lorient win Ligue 2 and return to France’s top division in 2020, then signed permanently that September. In a Lorient interview he described instructions to run behind defenders, enter the penalty area and make his crosses count. His pace gave Lorient a way to get behind the defence, with a shot or a cross to follow.
At Lorient, a free kick against Nantes earned a nomination for the French league’s 2020/21 goal of the season. France selected him for the 2021 European Under-21 Championship group stage. He came off the bench against Denmark and Iceland and was an unused substitute against Russia.
He joined Sassuolo from Lorient in August 2022. Sassuolo’s match programme later described his ball carrying and ability to operate on both attacking flanks. Even when starting wide left, he could change the angle of an attack by driving inside or staying outside to deliver.
Sassuolo’s 2024/25 Serie B title and return to the top flight gave Laurienté a defining season. He scored 18 league goals, won the division’s top-scorer prize and was named its season MVP. Sassuolo’s breakdown recorded goals with both feet and from outside the area, showing how his scoring went beyond simply arriving at the far post.
In the 2025/26 Serie A season, Lega Serie A credited him with nine assists, joint most among forwards. The shift from Serie B leading scorer to top-flight provider shows two ways he can shape an attack: finishing a move or supplying the final pass. He remained a wide attacker with more than one route to a chance.
