Profile
Amir Rrahmani is a Kosovo centre-back whose contribution begins before a tackle. He holds a position that lets the back line deal with balls into the box, but also gives teammates a passing option when they build from deep. In Napoli’s 2024/25 Serie A title season, the league highlighted his positioning, aerial work and heavy share of the team’s passing.
His Italian career first took shape at Hellas Verona, where he had become a regular in defence by January 2020. He made his Napoli debut on 3 January 2021, away to Cagliari. The step to a side expected to control matches asked him to do more than defend his own penalty area: he had to help keep possession and prepare the next attack.
Under Luciano Spalletti, that link between defence and attack became explicit. Rrahmani described a side trying to keep the ball without leaving itself open to counters, and said its defending began higher up the pitch. He started at Udinese in May 2023 when Napoli drew 1–1 and secured the league title.
With Antonio Conte, the demands were different but the same strengths mattered. Serie A’s 2024/25 review singled out Rrahmani’s positioning, aerial duels and volume of completed passes in a defence that conceded 27 league goals. He also started the final-day win over Cagliari that secured Napoli’s second title in three seasons. His circulation made that defence a platform for play, rather than merely a barrier.
The December 2025 Gran Galà del Calcio named him Defender of the Season for the previous campaign. That award comes from the Italian Footballers’ Association; Serie A’s own Best Defender prize went to Alessandro Bastoni. Napoli also won the Italian Super Cup later that month. In February 2026 he suffered a high-grade hamstring tear in his left thigh against Roma and was out for more than two months, returning in Napoli’s 4–0 win over Cremonese in April.
Rrahmani has carried leadership duties for Kosovo too: he captained the side in the September 2024 Nations League match in Cyprus. That role asks for the same attentiveness as his club work, although a national side can demand different spacing and passing choices. His influence comes from connecting defensive positioning to the next phase of possession.
Amir Rrahmani currently plays for Napoli as a centre-back. He has represented Kosovo internationally.
