Profile
Pierre Kalulu brings a full-back's pace to central defence. Comfortable on the right or in the middle, he can accelerate back into open space when an opponent gets beyond the defensive line. His ability to defend one against one has helped him take on different jobs across the back line.
He is also willing to carry possession forward from defence. At Juventus, Thiago Motta encouraged those runs in training, and Kalulu described the freedom it gave him after an October 2024 win over Lazio. Moving up the pitch with the ball offered a way to trouble opponents who were sitting deep.
Born in Lyon, Kalulu came through Olympique Lyonnais' academy and played for the club's reserve side before joining AC Milan in the summer of 2020. His first season in Italy brought chances at right-back and centre-back, giving him an early grounding in the two roles that have shaped his senior career.
His breakthrough came in Milan's 2021–22 title-winning season. Alongside Fikayo Tomori in the centre, he helped improve the defence during the second half of the campaign. Kalulu had begun that season behind more established names, but the partnership made him an important part of the team that won Serie A.
Juventus brought him to Turin on loan in August 2024. He established himself in the defence during that first season, and the club exercised its option to make the move permanent in June 2025. The switch gave him another setting in which to use his experience both centrally and on the right.
Kalulu's route through France's youth teams included the Tokyo Olympics before he made his senior debut against Spain in June 2025. In May 2026 Didier Deschamps left him out of France's squad for the World Cup. In September 2026, he started a Nations League win away to Belgium, adding senior international experience to a career developed through Lyon's academy and Italian club football.
