Profile
Matías Soulé is an Argentine attacker whose game connects the right wing with the spaces behind a striker. Left-footed, he can come in from the flank to bring the ball onto his stronger side, or receive between an opponent’s midfield and defence and link the attack. Dribbling and finding those pockets are central to his approach.
Born in Mar del Plata, Soulé developed in Vélez Sarsfield’s youth system before joining Juventus in January 2020. He progressed through the under-19 and under-23 teams, with the latter giving him experience of senior football in Serie C. His Juventus first-team debut followed against Salernitana in November 2021.
A loan to Frosinone for the 2023–24 season gave his attacking contribution a bigger stage. He scored 11 Serie A goals during that campaign, a substantial step beyond his initial appearances in Turin. Roma signed him from Juventus in July 2024, after a season in which he had established himself as a top-flight goalscorer.
His first Roma season included a memorable intervention in the city derby. In April 2025, a long-range strike brought Roma level with Lazio in a 1–1 draw. It showed another route to goal alongside his dribbling: a shot from outside the area could decide a moment without requiring a run through the defence.
His combination play offered a different example at Pisa in August 2025. After Soulé scored, Gian Piero Gasperini highlighted the exchanges involving Paulo Dybala and Evan Ferguson that had broken through a crowded defence. The coach also explained how Soulé found space both centrally and wider out, then carried the ball forward. Those movements make him a connector as well as a finisher.
Roma’s third-place finish in Serie A in May 2026 brought Champions League qualification. For Soulé, that campaign formed another stage in a route through several levels of Italian football, from Juventus’s development teams to the Frosinone loan and then the move to the capital.
Argentina also featured in that development. Lionel Scaloni called him into the senior squad in November 2021, while he was still working through Juventus’s development teams. He later played at the 2023 Under-20 World Cup in Argentina, gaining experience of an international tournament on home soil. In May 2026 he was named in Scaloni’s 55-man preliminary list for the 2026 World Cup but was left out of the final 26-man squad.
