Profile
Yann Bisseck is a German central defender who combines strength in the air with the speed to recover ground. Comfortable using both feet, he can contribute beyond the first defensive challenge: winning possession can become the beginning of an attack when he moves forward with the ball.
His work on the right of a three-man defence gives a useful picture of that approach. Against Kairat Almaty in November 2025, he took the ball from Luís Mata and carried it into the penalty area himself. That sequence shows how a defender can turn a regain into immediate pressure on the opposition goal.
Born in Cologne, Bisseck came through Köln’s academy and made his Bundesliga debut against Hertha Berlin in 2017. The early breakthrough did not lead to a straightforward climb. Spells with Holstein Kiel, Roda Kerkrade and Vitória Guimarães followed, with injuries interrupting his development along the way.
A move to Aarhus in 2021 gave him a more sustained platform. He spent two seasons in Denmark, developing into an important part of the AGF defence before joining Inter permanently in July 2023. AGF described the transfer as its biggest sale, a measure of how far his standing had changed during those two years.
Italy also brought a different tactical education. Bisseck has credited Matteo Darmian with helping him learn, highlighting his teammate’s intelligence and explaining that Italian football demanded tighter coordination across all eleven players. His development therefore involved fitting his own forward movement into a carefully organised team.
His first Inter season brought the 2023/24 Serie A title and an Italian Super Cup. International progress followed: after captaining Germany’s under-21 side, he made his senior debut as a substitute against Italy on 23 March 2025, in the 3–3 Nations League draw in Dortmund.
In 2025/26 he added another league title and the Coppa Italia with Inter. He started the 2–0 cup-final victory over Lazio as part of a back three, alongside Manuel Akanji and Alessandro Bastoni. It marked another milestone in a career that had taken him through Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark before Italy.
