Profile
Federico Dimarco is an Italian left wing-back whose left foot makes him a source of chances from the flank. His crosses from deep and set-piece delivery let him find forwards in the penalty area without having to reach the byline.
Born in Milan on 10 November 1997, he started playing at Calvairate before entering Inter’s youth system as a seven-year-old. He initially played in attack before moving to the left flank, and made his first-team debut against Qarabag in December 2014.
Establishing himself took longer. Spells at Ascoli, Empoli, Sion and Parma preceded a return to Inter in 2019 and then a season-and-a-half loan at Hellas Verona. Back at Inter in summer 2021, he scored his first goal for the club that September with a free-kick against Sampdoria.
He went on to win the 2023/24 Serie A title with Inter. There were also two Champions League finals: he started the defeats by Manchester City in 2023 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2025. In Istanbul in 2023, his header struck the crossbar as Inter searched for an equaliser.
The 2025/26 league campaign brought a second Scudetto and Serie A’s Best Overall Player award. Inter credited him with 18 league assists, a measure of how much of their attacking service came from a player operating on the left. Lega Serie A described that total as a record for a single season of Serie A. In May 2026 Inter also won the Coppa Italia, beating Lazio 2–0 in the final, where his corner led to the opening goal.
With Italy, he won bronze at the 2017 Under-20 World Cup. His first senior international goal came in the 2–0 win over Hungary in September 2022 that secured a Nations League finals place. Italy’s bid to reach the 2026 World Cup ended with a penalty-shootout defeat by Bosnia and Herzegovina in March 2026.
His delivery is part of a wider passing game. UEFA’s analysis of Inter’s May 2025 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona highlighted him regaining possession and finding Denzel Dumfries, who then set up Lautaro Martínez to score. The sequence shows how Dimarco can help turn a recovered ball into an immediate attack: the telling contribution can be the pass that releases the eventual provider.
Federico Dimarco currently plays for Inter as a left wing-back. He has represented Italy internationally.
