Profile
Andy Diouf can change the speed of a move without giving up the ball. The left-footed midfielder takes possession in central areas, drives past pressure and carries play into the next line. His running can open a teammate’s passing lane.
His route to senior football began in the Paris area and continued at Rennes, which he joined in 2018. He made his Ligue 1 debut against Paris Saint-Germain in May 2021. First-team chances remained limited, so a loan to Basel in 2022 gave him a longer run of senior matches.
Basel's journey to the 2022/23 Europa Conference League semi-finals was his breakthrough. UEFA's technical observers named him the competition's Young Player of the Season, describing a midfielder who worked defensively while also threatening goal. His carries and left-footed shooting helped explain why his midfield work stood out beyond simple possession recycling.
Lens signed him in June 2023. Across two seasons there, he gained regular Ligue 1 experience and played in the Champions League. His former club described the same central mechanism that had emerged at Basel: acceleration with the ball from deeper positions, followed by a pass or shot closer to goal.
For France's Olympic side in 2024, Diouf was initially named among the reserves, then started against New Zealand and Egypt. Against New Zealand, he moved into the box and slipped the ball to Désiré Doué in the move for France's second goal. France later took silver after losing the final to Spain; Diouf did not play in that final.
He joined Inter from Lens in August 2025. During Inter's 2025/26 season he scored twice in the Coppa Italia, and later scored his first Serie A goal in the final league match against Bologna. Inter won Serie A and the Coppa Italia that season.
His first senior France appearance came against Belgium in the Nations League on 28 September 2026, when he started on the left of the defence. That assignment showed another use for his mobility, but his distinctive attacking contribution remains the ability to carry the ball out of midfield before choosing whether to release it or keep going.
Andy Diouf currently plays for Inter as a defensive midfielder. He has represented France internationally.
