Profile
Berke Özer is a Turkish goalkeeper whom Lille describes as quick to react to shots close to his line. His reflexes and reach let him stop an attack even after it has reached the box. The club also highlights his willingness to come for aerial balls: catching or clearing a cross can end the danger before a shot is needed.
His route began in İzmir, with youth football at Bucaspor and Altınordu. He became a professional at Altınordu while still a teenager. For Türkiye's under-17 side, he played in the May 2017 European Championship quarter-final against Hungary, making a late low save as his team held on to reach the semi-finals.
Fenerbahçe signed him in 2018. He spent time on loan at Westerlo in Belgium, returned to Fenerbahçe, and later had a spell at Portimonense in Portugal. Rather than a straight rise at one club, he gained experience in different leagues before joining Eyüpspor in 2023 and spending time on loan at Ümraniyespor.
Eyüpspor gave that journey a firmer base. With Özer in the squad, the club won the Turkish second division in May 2024 and earned its first promotion to the Süper Lig. He then played top-flight football for Eyüpspor in 2024/25. He made his senior Türkiye debut in 2025.
Lille signed him from Eyüpspor in August 2025. One October Europa League match against Roma supplied a vivid test of his reactions: he stopped a penalty, then stopped the retake, then saved the third attempt after another retake was ordered. The first two attempts were repeated because he had left his line early. Lille won 1–0.
His first season in France also tested the less spectacular part of goalkeeping: directing defenders and keeping a side organized between saves. A Ligue 1 season review described his authority as growing after an uneven start. He started both legs of Lille's March 2026 Europa League round-of-16 tie, which ended in elimination by Aston Villa.
Berke Özer currently plays for Lille as a goalkeeper. He has represented Türkiye internationally.
