Profile
Achraf Hakimi is a Moroccan right-back whose movement makes him an extra attacker. His acceleration can carry him up the flank, but his threat also comes from leaving it: by exchanging positions with teammates, he can appear centrally where defenders expect to find a forward.
Born in Madrid on 4 November 1998 to Moroccan parents, he developed in Real Madrid’s academy and was part of their 2017/18 Champions League-winning team. A two-season loan at Borussia Dortmund then took him into German football, before the next stage of his career in Italy.
He helped Inter win Serie A in 2020/21, the club’s first league title for eleven years. His attacking runs on the right contributed goals and created chances for teammates, including decisive assists for Matteo Darmian during the run-in. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2021.
The 2025 Champions League final gave a particularly clear picture of his attacking instincts. In PSG’s 5–0 win over Inter, he moved into a centre-forward’s position to finish Désiré Doué’s pass for the opening goal. UEFA’s technical observers highlighted how these exchanges of position disrupted Inter’s marking. The right-back had become the player waiting to finish inside the box.
That year also brought the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, presented in November 2025. On 30 May 2026, he won another Champions League title with PSG, who retained the trophy by beating Arsenal on penalties after a 1–1 draw.
With Morocco, he was part of the team that reached the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, making the country the first African nation to reach that stage of the men’s competition.
At Paris 2024, he captained Morocco to their first Olympic men’s football medal. His late free-kick completed a 6–0 victory over Egypt in the bronze-medal match, adding an Olympic achievement to the national side’s World Cup breakthrough.
Morocco reached the World Cup quarter-finals again in 2026, where their campaign ended in a 2–0 defeat by France.
Achraf Hakimi currently plays for Paris Saint Germain as a right-back. He has represented Morocco internationally.
