Profile
Vitinha is a Portuguese midfielder who makes possession easier for the players around him. He moves to give a team-mate a clear passing option, controls the ball in crowded areas and can turn away from pressure. Those qualities help a side build attacks without rushing the next pass.
Born Vítor Machado Ferreira in Santo Tirso on 13 February 2000, he joined Porto’s academy in 2011. He helped the club win the UEFA Youth League in 2019 and made his senior debut in January 2020, progressing through the reserve side into first-team football.
A season-long loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers began in September 2020. After returning to Porto, he established himself in the side that won a domestic double in 2021/22 and received the Portuguese league’s Young Player of the Year award. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2022.
European success followed in Paris: he was part of the club’s first Champions League-winning team in 2025 and its title defence in 2026. In the latter final, PSG beat Arsenal on penalties after a 1–1 draw, and UEFA named Vitinha Player of the Match.
His senior Portugal debut came in March 2022. He won the Nations League in June 2025, when Portugal overcame Spain on penalties following a 2–2 final. The countries met again at the 2026 World Cup, where he started Portugal’s 1–0 defeat by Spain in the last 16.
His role involves changing where he offers that passing option. FIFA’s analysis of PSG against Seattle at the 2025 Club World Cup showed him dropping alongside the centre-backs, freeing Nuno Mendes to advance. At other moments, a pass out wide triggered his own run beyond midfield, making him a receiver farther forward.
UEFA identified the same range in the 2025 Champions League final against Inter. He joined the defensive line to help PSG outnumber the first press, then exchanged passes with Ousmane Dembélé and moved into the opposition half. His ability to connect these different positions explains how a deep midfielder can help both start and accelerate an attack.
Vitinha currently plays for Paris Saint Germain as a central midfielder. He has represented Portugal internationally.
