Profile
Cristian Cásseres Jr. is a central midfielder who links ball-winning to forward play. His movement matters on both sides of possession: he challenges for loose balls, then offers a passing option so a recovery can become an attack. Toulouse has described him as a player who covers ground, wins duels and helps launch moves. The result is a midfielder whose defensive work and attacking support belong to the same sequence.
His route began in Caracas. After youth football at Atlético Venezuela, he moved to Deportivo La Guaira and made his first-division debut at 16. The New York Red Bulls brought him to Major League Soccer in 2018. He started his first MLS match against Houston that August, establishing a foothold in a new league while still a teenager.
At the Red Bulls, Cásseres developed from a young arrival into a regular central midfielder. His 2022 season brought his highest minutes and assist totals for the club, including two matches in which he set up more than one goal. Those contributions show the attacking half of his role: his work was not finished when New York regained possession, because he could also help create the next chance.
Toulouse signed him from New York on 7 July 2023. The move took him into Ligue 1 and, in his first season, European competition. He scored his first French league goal against Rennes in April 2024, equalising with a shot. Toulouse's match account also noted his ball recoveries that day, an example of the two-way contribution that had shaped his game in MLS.
The distinction is in how he joins the phases. Winning a challenge gives his side possession, but he also makes himself available for the next pass and can move the ball towards the final third. He is neither only a holding midfielder nor only a creator.
Cásseres has also played for Venezuela at senior level. He started against Canada in the 2024 Copa América quarter-final, which Venezuela drew before going out on penalties.
Cristian Cásseres Jr. currently plays for Toulouse as a defensive midfielder. He has represented Venezuela internationally.
