Profile
Rodrigo Mora progressed through Porto's system. He made his professional debut for Porto B in Portugal's second tier in January 2023, aged 15. It made him the youngest player in the country's professional competitions and gave him adult opposition while he was still eligible for youth football.
In 2023/24, Mora was joint leading scorer in the UEFA Youth League as Porto reached the semi-finals. For Portugal he scored five goals at the 2024 European Under-17 Championship, including a late equaliser against Serbia in a comeback semi-final. Italy beat Portugal in the final, though Mora's goals earned him a scoring award.
Mora's move into Porto's senior attack gathered pace in 2024/25. At Moreirense in December 2024, he scored and assisted in a league win. His goal came after he persisted in a crowded penalty area until he found room to shoot, showing how he could turn a small opening near goal into an attempt.
His movement without the ball is just as revealing. In a February 2025 Europa League match against Roma, UEFA's technical observers highlighted Mora leaving a wide position to drop between midfield and defence. He drew Roma defender Zeki Çelik towards him, clearing a lane for Porto wing-back Francisco Moura. His positioning helped create space before the final pass was played.
That move explains why a single position label tells only part of the story. From the flank, Mora could enter a central pocket and force a defender to choose: follow him and open room for a runner, or stay and leave him available for a forward pass.
Mora was part of Porto's 2025/26 Portuguese league title-winning squad. By August 2026 he had moved to Roma. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini described his Porto development as advanced for his age but cautioned against making him the leader of a Champions League side. The move was a major step, with further development still expected.
By September 2026, Mora had been named in Portugal's Under-21 group for European Championship qualifiers, adding a later age group to his youth career.
Rodrigo Mora currently plays for AS Roma as a midfielder. He has represented Portugal internationally.
