Profile
Career & playing style
Iñigo Vicente is a left-sided attacker who can move inside to play behind a striker. That movement changes his passing angles: a defender must decide whether to follow him from the flank, while Vicente looks for runners between or beyond the lines. His game is built as much on where he releases the ball as where he receives it.
His route began in Derio and Athletic Club's youth system, with a year at Danok Bat along the way. He progressed through Basconia to Bilbao Athletic, scoring regularly in successive reserve-team seasons. In April 2015 he also scored in the Basque territorial under-18 team's Spanish championship final against Madrid. That was a regional representative title, not a Spain senior honour.
Athletic sent Vicente to Mirandés for the 2019/20 season and again for 2021/22. Between those loans, he made his official Athletic debut against Cádiz at San Mamés on 1 October 2020, replacing Iñaki Williams in the second half. His first-team chance was brief; the Mirandés spells gave him sustained experience in Spain's second tier.
Vicente left Athletic in July 2022 and joined Racing Santander for the 2022/23 campaign. Racing described him as able to operate either as a winger or an attacking midfielder. From a wide starting point, he can move inward to connect midfield with the forwards, while still offering a delivery from the flank.
Two Racing matches show those options. Against Granada in November 2025, his corner found Javi Castro for a headed goal. Against Huesca in May 2026, he played behind the defence for Álvaro Mantilla to score during a comeback. One chance began with a stationary ball, the other with the timing of a pass into space.
Racing secured promotion in May 2026 and finished the 2025/26 season as second-division champions. Vicente started the final league match against Cádiz, supplied Juan Carlos Arana for Racing's third goal and scored their fourth in a 4–1 win. It capped his part in a team title.
Promotion brought Vicente back to Spain's top division with a different body of work behind him from his first Athletic appearance. The Racing examples show a creator who can change the point of attack with a pass from the left channel, a corner or a ball released behind the defence. His decisions matter more than a fixed wing position.
