Overview

Blackburn in brief

Founded in 1875, Blackburn Rovers represent the Lancashire town of Blackburn and were among the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888. The club have played at Ewood Park, beside the River Darwen, since 1890. Their blue-and-white halved shirts are regarded as the town's colours, and the team are widely known simply as Rovers or the Blue and Whites.

Blackburn have been English champions three times, winning the First Division in 1911-12 and 1913-14 and the Premier League in 1994-95, after local entrepreneur Jack Walker took control and appointed Kenny Dalglish as manager. Their six FA Cups include three in a row from 1884 to 1886, marked by a specially commissioned silver shield. Rovers also won the League Cup in 2002, the 1912 Charity Shield, the 1938-39 Second Division and the 1974-75 Third Division.
