Overview

Norwich in brief

Founded in 1902 at a meeting at the Criterion Cafe, Norwich City have played at Carrow Road in Norwich since 1935. Before that the club used Newmarket Road and then The Nest, a converted chalk pit on Rosary Road. Known as the Canaries, a nickname drawn from the city's long tradition of breeding the birds, Norwich first played in blue and white before switching to yellow and green in 1907 to match it.

Norwich won the League Cup in 1962 and again in 1985, and have been champions of the second tier five times, in 1971-72, 1985-86, 2003-04, 2018-19 and 2020-21. Their best league finish came in 1992-93, when they were third in the first Premier League season. That earned a place in the 1993-94 UEFA Cup, where Norwich beat Bayern Munich 2-1 at the Olympiastadion, the first British side to win there, before going out to Inter Milan. The club have also won third-tier titles in 1933-34 and 2009-10.
