Overview

Juve Stabia in brief

Football in Castellammare di Stabia dates to 1907, when the brothers Romano and Pauzano Weiss founded Stabia Sporting Club, and Juve Stabia count that year as their foundation. When the old Stabia folded in 1953, Juventus Stabia, founded in 1935, became the main town club and switched from black and white stripes to yellow and blue, the colours of the town's civic banner. The nickname is Vespe, the Wasps. Home is the Stadio Romeo Menti, opened in 1985 and named after the forward who played for Stabia in the 1940s.

The old Stabia reached Serie B in 1951 by beating Foggia 2-0 in a play-off in Florence, but went straight back down. Juve Stabia themselves folded in 2001; in 2002 a new club, merged with Comprensorio Nola, took Nola's place in Serie D. As Societa Sportiva Juve Stabia it won promotion and the Coppa Italia Serie D in 2003-04, then reached Serie B in 2011, the year it also won the Coppa Italia Lega Pro. Marco Sau's 21 goals helped the team to ninth place in 2011-12.
