Overview

Amed in brief

Founded in 1972, Amedspor are the leading football club of Diyarbakir, one of the largest cities in south-eastern Turkey. The club take their name from Amed, the Kurdish name for the city, which they adopted in 2014 after playing under earlier identities including Melikahmet Turanspor and Diyarbakir Buyuksehir Belediyespor. Home matches are played at the Diyarbakir Stadium, and the crest carries a double-headed eagle, a figure found on the city's ancient walls.

Amedspor spent many years in amateur and lower-division football, first reaching the third tier in 2007 and returning in 2013 for an 11-season stay. Their first third-tier title came in 2023-24, when they won the Red Group of the TFF Second League. Two seasons later they finished second in the TFF First League to win promotion to the Super Lig for the first time in their history. In the Turkish Cup, a run to the 2015-16 quarter-finals, the club's first, brought a tie against Fenerbahce.
