Overview
Cracovia Krakow in brief
Cracovia are a football club from Krakow and are widely regarded as the oldest Polish sports club still in existence. The club was founded on 13 June 1906 in Krakow and takes its name from Cracovia, the Latin name of the city. The team wear red and white, and their striped shirts give the club its nickname, Pasy, meaning The Stripes. Home matches are played at the Stadion Cracovii im. Jozefa Pilsudskiego, named after Marshal Jozef Pilsudski, on Jozef Kaluza Street in Krakow. The present stadium holds just over 15,000 spectators and staged the final of the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Cracovia were the first Polish champions, winning the first national championship in 1921. Further titles followed in 1930, 1932, 1937 and 1948, making five in all, and they finished as runners-up in 1934 and 1949. The 1948 title was decided by a play-off against city rivals Wisla Krakow, which Cracovia won 3-1 on 5 December 1948. After a long wait for a major trophy, the club won its first Polish Cup in 2020 under coach Michal Probierz and went on to win the 2020 Polish Super Cup. Cracovia's European record is modest: their Europa League campaigns, including 2019-20, have ended in the qualifying rounds.

Cracovia's great rivalry is the Krakow derby with Wisla Krakow, known as the Holy War (Swieta Wojna) and often described as the oldest and most important derby in Polish football. The clubs first met in an official competition run by the Polish football association on 13 May 1920, when Wisla won 1-0. More than a century of competition for the same city drives the rivalry, and the 1948 title play-off is one of its landmark matches. Among the club's best-known figures is Jozef Kaluza, an inter-war forward who later coached the Poland national team and after whom the street outside the stadium is named.
