Overview

Randers FC in brief

Randers FC was founded on 1 January 2003 in Randers, East Jutland, as a joint senior team of six local clubs: Randers Freja (founded 1898), Dronningborg, Kristrup, Vorup Frederiksberg, Hornbaek and Randers KFUM. Local businesses backed the project after Randers Freja came close to bankruptcy in 2002, and the new club took over Freja's professional licence and its place in the second-tier 1st Division. The team is often called Kronjyderne. Home games are played at the municipally owned Randers Stadium, rebuilt in 2006 and 2012 and known as Cepheus Park Randers since 2018.

Randers won promotion to the Superliga in 2004 but went straight back down. In 2005-06 they were promoted again and beat Esbjerg 1-0 in the Danish Cup final at Parken, the first cup win by a second-tier side since 1974. Relegated in 2011, the club returned a year later and finished third in 2012-13, its best league finish. A second Danish Cup came in 2021 with a 4-0 final win over Sonderjyske, followed by a 2021-22 Conference League group-stage campaign. In August 2026 Japanese group Suzuyo bought 80% of the club.
