Overview

SCR Altach in brief

SCR Altach was founded on 26 December 1929, when the gymnastics club Turnerbund Altach, in the Vorarlberg village of Altach, approved Anton Giesinger's proposal for a football section. The section played as FA Turnerbund Altach from 1930 and stopped in 1937. It restarted within the new SV Altach in 1946 and became independent as Sportclub Rheindorf Altach on 5 March 1949. The club colours are black and white. After 40 years at the Sportplatz Riedle, the club moved in 1990 to Stadion Schnabelholz, which was called Cashpoint Arena from 2007 to 2025.

Altach won the third-tier Regionalliga West in 1991, 1997 and 2004, but each of the first two promotions lasted only one season in the second tier. Winning the second-tier Erste Liga in 2005-06 took the club into the Bundesliga for the first time. After relegation in 2009, Altach won the Erste Liga again in 2013-14. In 2014-15 it finished third with 59 points, at the time the best record by a promoted side in Bundesliga history. Europa League qualifying runs followed in 2015-16 and 2017-18, when Altach knocked out Gent. In 2026 the club reached its first Austrian Cup final and lost 4-2 to LASK after extra time.
