Overview

Lyngby in brief

Lyngby Boldklub was founded on 30 March 1921 in Kongens Lyngby, a northern suburb of Copenhagen, when 30 young members of the football section of Lyngby IF broke away to form their own club. An earlier club called Lyngby Boldklub had been founded in 1906 but had folded. The new club first played at Lundtofte airfield, using its hangars as changing rooms, and in 1949 moved to the site of Lyngby Stadion, still its home. Known as De Kongeblaa (the royal blues), the team plays in royal blue.

Lyngby were Danish champions in 1983 and 1991-92 and won the Danish Cup in 1984, 1985 and 1990. In the 1984-85 European Cup they beat KS Elbasani 6-0 on aggregate before losing 2-1 on aggregate to Sparta Prague in the second round. The professional side played as Lyngby FC from 1994 to 2001. Bankruptcy in December 2001 dropped the club to the amateur Danmarksserien, but it returned to the top flight by winning the 1st Division in 2006-07. It has since moved between the top two divisions, and won the 1st Division again in 2025-26.
