Overview

Odense in brief

Odense Boldklub, usually called OB, was founded in Odense on 12 July 1887 as Odense Cricketklub, with cricket its only sport. Football and tennis were added in 1889, when the club took its present name. OB were first based at Munke Mose and moved to Adalen, by the Odense River, in 1968; the club still trains there. The team is nicknamed De Stribede (The Striped). Home games are played at Odense Stadion, opened in 1941 and known as Nature Energy Park since July 2018.

OB were promoted to the top flight in 1975 and, under coach Richard Moller Nielsen, won their first Danish championship in 1977, followed by titles in 1982 and 1989. They have won the Danish Cup five times: 1983, 1991, 1993, 2002 and 2007. In the 1994-95 UEFA Cup, OB lost 3-2 at home to Real Madrid but won 2-0 in Madrid, a result known in Denmark as "the Miracle in Madrid", before losing to Parma in the quarter-finals. OB were relegated in 1998 and 2024, and won the second-tier 1st Division in 1999 and 2024-25.
