Overview

Levante in brief

Founded in 1909, Levante are one of Valencia's two major football clubs and trace their identity to the city's maritime districts. Supporters are known as Granotas, the Valencian word for frogs, a nickname inherited through the club's historical connection with Gimnastico. Levante play at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia, opened in 1969 and long associated with the blue-and-claret side's popular, neighbourhood-based support.

Levante's honours include the 1937 Copa de la Espana Libre, officially recognised by the Spanish federation in 2023, and three Segunda Division titles. Their sixth-place La Liga finish in 2011-12 led to a run to the last 16 of the following UEFA Europa League. The experienced, disciplined side coached by Juan Ignacio Martinez embodied the compact defending and counter-attacking approach associated with that landmark period.
