Overview

Dundee in brief

Dundee Football Club was formed in 1893 when two local clubs, East End and Our Boys, merged to seek election to the Scottish Football League. The bid succeeded, and the first league game, on 12 August 1893 at West Craigie Park, was a 3-3 draw with Rangers. Dundee then played at Carolina Port before moving in 1899 to Dens Park, their home ever since. After sponsored names from 2018, latterly The Scot Foam Stadium, the ground reverted to Dens Park in 2025. The team are known as the Dark Blues or the Dee.

Dundee's first major trophy was the Scottish Cup in 1910, won against Clyde in a second replay. Under George Anderson they won the Scottish League Cup in 1951-52 and 1952-53, becoming the first club to retain it. Bob Shankly's side won the league title, the club's only one, in 1961-62 and reached the European Cup semi-finals in 1962-63, losing to AC Milan. A third League Cup followed in 1973-74. Administration came in 2003 and 2010, and the club won second-tier titles in 2013-14 and 2022-23.
