Overview

Servette FC in brief

Servette was founded in Geneva on 20 March 1890 as the Football Club de la Servette, a rugby club named after the city's Servette district. On 17 January 1900 it added a football section: Aime Schwob, a sports newspaper owner, was elected president, the club adopted association football rules and took the name Servette Football Club. The team is nicknamed Les Grenats after its garnet colour. Servette played at the Stade des Charmilles from 1930 to 2002 and moved to the 30,084-seat Stade de Geneve, at La Praille, in 2003.

Servette have won 17 Swiss championships, from 1906-07 to 1998-99, plus eight Swiss Cups and three League Cups. In 1978-79, under coach Peter Pazmandy, they won the league, Swiss Cup, League Cup and Coupe des Alpes and reached the Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals. Bankruptcy in 2005 sent the club down to the third tier. Promoted in 2011, it was relegated on sporting grounds for the first time in 2013. Back up as Challenge League champions in 2019, Servette won the 2024 Swiss Cup on penalties against Lugano, their first major trophy in 23 years.
