Overview

Konyaspor in brief

Konyaspor trace their foundation to 22 June 1922, when the club was formed as Konya Genclerbirligi. The Konyaspor name dates from a 1965 merger of local clubs, and a further merger with city rivals Konya Idmanyurdu in 1981 brought the green-and-white colours worn today. Known as Anadolu Kartali, the Anatolian Eagle, the club carries a double-headed eagle on its crest, a Seljuk symbol recalling Konya's history as the Seljuk capital. Since 2014 Konyaspor have played at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium.

Konyaspor won the second-tier title in 1987-88 to reach the top flight for the first time, and again in 2002-03, after an earlier third-tier title in 1970-71. Their biggest honours came in 2017, when they beat Istanbul Basaksehir on penalties in the Turkish Cup final and then Besiktas 2-1 in the Turkish Super Cup; they reached a second cup final in 2026, losing to Trabzonspor. Third place in 2015-16 and 2021-22 is the club's best league finish, and the first brought a European debut in the 2016-17 Europa League.
