Overview

FC Vaduz in brief

FC Vaduz was founded on 14 February 1932 in Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, with Johann Walser as its first chairman. The club spent its first season, 1932-33, in the Vorarlberg football association in Austria, then joined the Swiss league system in 1933, where it still plays as a guest club and does not enter the Swiss Cup. Its colours are red and white. Home games are played at the Rheinpark Stadion, Liechtenstein's national stadium on the banks of the Rhine, which opened in 1998 with a friendly against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Liechtenstein has no league of its own, so the Liechtenstein Cup is the club's main domestic prize: Vaduz won it for the 52nd time in May 2026, and the winner enters UEFA qualifying. Winning the Challenge League in 2007-08 made Vaduz the first foreign club in the Swiss top flight. It returned for 2014-15 to 2016-17 and for 2020-21, and won the Challenge League again in 2025-26 with a club-record 81 points. In 2022 it became the first Liechtenstein club to reach the group stage of a UEFA club competition, in the Europa Conference League.
