Overview

Wolfsberger AC in brief

Wolfsberger AC was founded in 1931 in Wolfsberg, in the Lavant valley of Carinthia, by Adolf Ptazcowsky, Karl Weber, Hermann Maierhofer, Franz Hafner and Michael Schlacher. The club spent most of its history in regional football and first reached the national second tier in 1968. From 2007 to 2012 it worked in a cooperation with neighbours SK St. Andra and played as WAC/St. Andra. The team plays in black and white, is nicknamed the Wolves, and has been known as RZ Pellets WAC since 2014-15. Its home ground is the Lavanttal-Arena, which holds about 8,100.

WAC/St. Andra were promoted to the second-tier First League in 2010 and won it in 2011-12, taking Wolfsberg into the Bundesliga for the first time. They finished fifth in their first top-flight season. Third place in 2018-19 brought a first Europa League group stage, which began with a 4-0 win at Borussia Monchengladbach. In 2020-21 the team reached the round of 32, where Tottenham Hotspur won 8-1 on aggregate. The club's first major trophy came on 1 May 2025: a 1-0 win over TSV Hartberg in the Austrian Cup final in Klagenfurt.
