AZ Alkmaar thrash ten-man PSV to win Johan Cruyff Shield
AZ Alkmaar routed PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in the Johan Cruyff Shield final at Philips Stadion, a Dutch domestic showpiece that turned on an early red card. PSV's Joey Veerman was dismissed after just nine minutes, and AZ made the numerical advantage tell across the remainder of the contest.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Mexx Meerdink opened the scoring in the 25th minute to send AZ in 1-0 up at half-time. PSV, already reduced to ten men, could not stem the tide after the interval as Weslley Patati doubled the lead in the 51st minute, assisted by Peer Koopmeiners.
AZ continued to pull away as Elijah Dijkstra added a third in the 58th minute, teed up by Ro-Zangelo Daal, before Daal turned scorer himself eight minutes later, converting a penalty to make it 4-0. The visitors dominated territory throughout, holding 65 percent of possession and outshooting PSV 21 to 15 as the man advantage compounded PSV's difficulties.
Ro-Zangelo Daal capped a decisive display by scoring once and setting up another, finishing with a rating of 9.3 to lead all performers on the day.
AZ's 65 percent possession share underlined their control of the final once PSV were reduced to ten men.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave PSV Eindhoven 59%, the draw 22%, AZ Alkmaar 19%. It finished PSV Eindhoven 0–4 AZ Alkmaar.
PSV Eindhoven's rating edge carries it — PSV Eindhoven are the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of PSV Eindhoven's 59%. The draw at 22% is held down by a high-scoring environment.
Why PSV Eindhoven at 59%?
PSV Eindhoven sit 188 points higher on our strength rating — 1966 to 1778. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge at home won 57.2% of 12,634 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 61–23–16.
Why only 59%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 59% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 22% and AZ Alkmaar at 19%.
Why is the draw only 22%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 24.2%. These teams' recent games average 4.0 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 16,832. The goals environment takes 2.0 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
PSV Eindhoven average 6 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 188 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. PSV Eindhoven scored +0.65 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Measured across 2,727 games at this rating gap, hot-finishing sides won 42.0% vs 42.9% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it scores 0 until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
