Sweden thrash Tunisia 5-1 in World Cup group opener
Sweden opened their World Cup Group Stage campaign with a commanding 5-1 win over Tunisia at Estadio BBVA. Yasin Ayari struck twice either side of a Tunisian reply, while Alexander Isak had a hand in three of the five goals as Graham Potter's side ran riot against Sabri Lamouchi's outfit.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Ayari put Sweden ahead after seven minutes, and Isak doubled the lead in the 30th minute with an assist from Viktor Gyökeres. Tunisia responded through Omar Rekik, set up by Hannibal Mejbri, to make it 2-1 at the break. Sweden pulled away after half-time as Gyökeres converted an Isak assist in the 59th minute.
The rout continued late on. Mattias Svanberg added a fourth in the 84th minute, again teed up by Isak, before Ayari completed his brace deep into stoppage time with a Lucas Bergvall assist to make it 5-1. Sweden dominated for long spells despite a near-even possession split, outshooting Tunisia 13 to 6 and forcing seven shots on target to their opponents' two.
Isak was involved in three of Sweden's five goals, scoring once and setting up two others, earning the highest rating on the pitch at 8.9. Ayari also impressed with a brace either side of Tunisia's lone reply.
Sweden's 1.36 expected goals figure dwarfed Tunisia's 0.28, reflecting how thoroughly they carved open their opponents' defence.
