Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Charlotte 52%, the draw 21%, FC Dallas 27%. It finished Charlotte 3–2 FC Dallas.
Level sides, home ground swings it — Nothing separates them on our strength rating, and Major League Soccer home advantage plus FC Dallas' hot finishing due to cool give Charlotte the lean. The draw at 21% is nudged down by the same factors that shape the win chances.
Why Charlotte in front?
Home ground, mostly. Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 1526 to 1558. Sides this close won 42.6% of 14,793 home games (draw 27.1%, visitors 30.3%). Major League Soccer home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (25.7% vs 30.0%). Major League Soccer homes won 49.2% of 5,207 games vs 44.6% across all 101,016 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. FC Dallas scored +0.32 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Visitors running this hot went on to win 27.2% of 1,447 games, vs 27.9% for visitors finishing normally.
Why only 52%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Charlotte scored +0.57 goals per game beyond chance-quality — home sides this hot gave some of it back. Opponents of hot-finishing home sides won 28.7% of 1,465 games, vs 27.7% against normal finishing.
Why is the draw only 21%?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 27.1%. These teams' recent games average 3.5 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 23.2% of 16,847. The cool-off factor takes 2.4 points off the draw. The goals environment takes 2.3 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Last five: Charlotte D-W-D-W-L, FC Dallas W-W-W-D-W — FC Dallas are clearly the hotter side on recent results, and unbeaten in their last 6 on 90-minute results, all competitions (4 wins, 2 draws), a run going back to August 2026. Between equals, recent form told us almost nothing: the home side won 43.3% of 1897 games when clearly hotter and 43.7% of 3639 when clearly colder.
